Sexy foods - Aphrodisiacs
|
 |
 |
|
Named after Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of sexual love and beauty, an aphrodisiac is any food or drug, drink or scent believed to stimulate sexual desire. Many claims have been made about their magical powers, while remaining largely unproven by science.

Extra Hot and Spicy foods

Many people claim that extra-hot and spicy foods heat up their desires and put them in a romantic mood. Spices -- Cayenne red pepper, curries and chilli and all the other sweat inducing foods are believed to have aphrodisiacal effects because they produce physiological results much like sex would. Think about it; spicy foods increase our heart rate and cause us to perspire.
Chilli Peppers contain a substance called capsaicin which actually provides the characteristic heat of chilli. Capsaicin stimulates nerve endings, raises the pulse and provokes sweating. It is believed that the burn associated with eating very spicy food encourages the body to release endorphins, the chemicals that give us a natural high that is conducive to love-making.
It's no coincidence that these and other spicy foods were banned by the Puritans!

Spanish Fly, is made from a crushed blister-beetles which, when ingested, produces a better blood flow, thereby affecting sexual performance. It also contains cantharides, which can cause physical arousal of a sort, by irritating the urinary tract when ingested and excreted. Unfortunately it has also been found to be potentially lethal and damaging to the kidneys.

Popular aphrodisiacs have included: oysters; garlic & onions; musk; quince; cheese, chocolate, asparagus, walnuts, pine nuts & grapes; Spanish Fly; tiger bones; rhino horn; jackal bile; snake blood; seal penis; deer testicles; deer penis; absinthe. Some foods were glorified as aphrodisiacs based on their rarity and mystery.
Some foods are known aphrodisiacs like oysters because they are filled with zinc which is said to increase both sperm and testosterone production as well as the secretion of a vaginal lubricant. Other foods are visually stimulating such as strawberries. Red is also the color of sex.
Vanilla is the unripe fruit of an orchid, Vanilla planifolia. Derived from the Spanish word vainila, a diminutive of vaina meaning vagina. Vanilla is a well known powerful aphrodisiac, acting through its odour as much as through its taste. Vanilla essence [extracted from real vanilla] can be added to your bath to produce a mild sexually arousing effect, especially when you and your partner bathe together.
